Thunderbird 1

|

Inspired by talk in the studio about licences we would like to work on, I decided to return to a childhood favourite as a personal project. An initial issue was finding reference. For such a cult favourite there is a surprising lack of imagery on the internet. There isn't even a definitive answer on the dimensions of Thunderbird 1. Combined with multiple interations of the Thunderbird 1 used through production, makes pinning down the details of this vehicle.

As a personal project, I used it as an exploration of hard surface modelling and baking such forms to a normal map, using the xNormal application.

The images are taken from MAX's realtime viewport of the low polygon version of Thunderbird 1. The model is using Xoliul's .fx shader, with viewport shadows turned on, and a scene bloom effect applied. The scene is set up with one spotlight and two omni lights.
